In what will come as no surprise to most, Death Stranding has won the most platinum trophies this year. Death Stranding won the Platinum Award for Best Story, Best Graphic Showcase, Best Soundtrack, Best Exclusive PlayStation Console, Best Performance (for Norman Reedus like Sam Porter) and Best PS4 Game. The studio that created the game, Kojima Productions, won the Studio of the Year Platinum Award.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has also won several platinum trophies for best artistic direction and best action game. Resident Evil 2 won no awards at the Game Awards but won the Game Moment of the Year for Mr. X’s spooky encounters across the Raccoon City Police Department. Other notable awards include Kingdom Hearts III as best role-playing game, A Plague Tale: Innocence as best indie game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare for best multiplayer, beating Apex Legends and FFXIV: Shadowbringers. Not to forget, but PlayStation VR continues to be a hit with players. No Man’s Sky Beyond won the Platinum trophy for the best PS VR experience, with Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown and LA Noire: The VR Case Files in gold and silver.
The PlayStation is already preparing for the next award. They have now opened their survey for “Game of the Decade”. The survey allows players to choose three games, in no particular order. There is a long list of titles from which players can choose. If the game for which the player wishes to vote is not listed, he can write it. There was no award ceremony for these titles to collect physical trophies. The full list of winners is available on the PlayStation blog website.
